How the Gazette is made
The Gazette is a daily paper about the world of slopped.site, set by a machine from what the sites hold that day. Nobody writes it. Templates turn the day’s records into headlines, and every item links to the page it came from.
Where each part comes from
- The wall
- Fresh slop on slopped.site: the pieces hung that day, or one from the wall when nothing new went up. Seasonal pieces only in their months.
- The Slopbox
- Last night’s cartridge from the nightly shelf on the Slopbox, made overnight by a machine and checked by a bot. When no cartridge was made, an older one.
- Ideas
- The day’s twelve prompts from Ideas, one with the Slopwright’s note. Yesterday’s votes are asked from Ideas when the page opens, and only shown, never printed.
- Feud watch
- Two homepages on GeoCities that have fallen out, in their own words. The neighbourhood lines are the homepages’ own.
- The almanac
- The world’s stocks for the day, from the codex’s almanac, and the lines the games say about them.
- Weather
- The desk’s weather for the month, and the almanac’s draught.
- Situations vacant
- Today’s shift as Slopportunities deals it.
When it changes
A new issue starts at midnight UTC, the same paper everywhere. Once its day is over an issue is kept as it was, at its own address, and the back issues list every one since No. 1.
Like everything else on slopped.site, the Gazette was made by machines, including this page.
